Peer & Teacher Reviews
I shared AIPT with my teachers and peers to see if they find it useful and get feedback on potential improvements needed. Here is the glimpse of what they had to say.
"Excellent use of technology!"
Ms.Witty, Homeroom Teacher
"This was very helpful with my facts and other things."

Motivation
I often got assigned a peer tutor in class which I was not fond of. Even though I want to help, sometimes, I am unable to help my friends and then they have to wait for the teacher to answer their questions. I observed that in most cases, those questions get ignored and never answered.
The same thing happened over the summer when I was asking my dad a lot of questions and he was working and was unable to respond right away and then, I forgot about the question. When I mentioned it, he introduced me to ChatGPT which could answer all my questions when I needed it.
So, I thought it would be great to have such a tool in the school and I started exploring on how can I do that.
Preparation
Over the summer, I learned how to use ChatGPT which is simply an AI website. I got to know that this is powered by something called generative AI and I wanted to know more about what is it and how it worked.
So, I completed an online course on generative AI in coursera (https://www.coursera.org/learn/generative-ai-for-everyone)
I also read "The AI Powered School" by Gabriel Rshaid, and AI for Smart re-Teens and Teens" by Dr. Leo Lexicon. At the same time, I went to my principal with my plan of creating a peer tutor for Sarah Smith. Honestly, I had to knock on the door multiple times before we could sit together and talk through it but when he heard about it, he was excited and fully supportive. He tweeted about the same (see -->).
Execution
I thought I prepared a lot but when I started figuring out what needed to be done to get the project up and running. It turned out that I needed to learn a lot about coding and APIs to use it, and I had no idea about that.
Fortunately, while working with ChatGPT and browsing online about it, I discovered that OpenAI was releasing GPT4 which can create custom GPTs without any coding necessary.
I jumped on this and tried to get access but it was limited and I wasn't able to signup to create GPTs. So, I wrote to OpenAI support to get me access. I am not sure if that worked or something else but I was invited to join ChatGPT Plus pretty soon.
As it turns out, I needed to be 13 years or older to get access. So, I turned to my dad and he signed up for the service on his account so I can complete my project.

Features
Building a custom GPT for school requires some non-intuitive choices on how to configure it. You can do anything with ChatGPT which sometimes may not be appropriate for students. So, this project finetunes OpenAI's ChatGPT 4 to behave in a manner that is suitable and customizable for individual students:
AIPT is fine-tuned to work for elementary grades 1-5 and asks for your preferences including:
Learning style
Communication style based on how a student likes to learn
Tone
Lastly, if you want emojis during your chat.
AIPT is fine tuned to just focus on the curriculum-related questions. If something other than curriculum-related is asked of it, it tries to bring back the conversation to the curriculum and get students to focus on what they are trying to learn in the first place.
AIPT is fine tuned not to give straight-up answers to questions but rather interaction with students to reach the answer through interaction.
AIPT waits for students to interact rather than going on and on about a topic to ensure student interaction and learning.
AIPT is prohibited from including inappropriate language or words for elementary school. If a student tries to use such words, it asks students to go back to curriculum-related answers and not use such words.
